(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) A major corporation is reportedly having reservations about relocating to Oklahoma City in light of comments by state Rep. Sally Kern that gays are a worse threat than terrorists.

The Journal-Record reports that Staubach, a company that helps corporations relocate, is having trouble selling the city to its client, described only as a triple-A company with more than 1,000 employees.

The paper said that the unnamed company had not made up its mind but was seriously concerned following the publicity over Kern’s remarks.

“He told us straight up … ‘I cannot recommend to any of my clients that they should consider Oklahoma City because of that,’” Roy Williams, president of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce told the Journal-Record.

“When you have one of the nation’s premier relocation experts making those statements, you should pay attention to that and not dismiss it,” said Williams.

The paper also said that the Saubach representative would neither confirm nor deny that the company’s CEO is a lesbian.

Rep Kern (R) made the incendiary remarks in a speech to a small gathering but did not know they were being recorded.  The tape fell into the hands of The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund which then posted it on YouTube. (story)

“The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation; it’s just a fact,” Kern declares.

“I’m not gay bashing, but according to God’s word that is not the right kind of lifestyle,” she said. “It has deadly consequences.”

Kern goes on to declare that “Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades.”

Kern has refused to retract the remarks and the state Republican Party has declined to censure her.

She later met with representatives of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays but when the group said Kern told the representatives that “I agree with” the idea that gay and lesbian Americans should not be fired from their jobs because of their sexual orientation she accused PFLAG of misrepresenting her.

PFLAG following by posting on its web site an audio tape of the full meeting in which Kern made the statement. (story)

Earlier this month more than 1000 people demonstrated in support of Kern at the Oklahoma Capitol. (story
